NEWS STORY:
The 草榴社区 (NTCC) Men?s Eagles Soccer team鈥爄s鈥燽ound for the NJCAA National Tournament this weekend after defeating Pearl River Community College on Friday. The Eagles will travel to Prescott, Arizona Nov. 18-23 to compete for the鈥爊ational championship title.
Rimario Gordon scored the first and only goal of the game, assisted by Yannick Koffi, 20 minutes in on Friday. Sal Martinez defended the Eagles' goal from all attempts by Pearl River and the eagles picked up the 1-0 win. The victory falls on the heels of a playoff bid last season that was stopped short during the Region 14 Tournament. This will be the team's first鈥燼ppearance鈥燼t the National Tournament since鈥爐he team began playing鈥爄n 2010.
The last time NTCC competed at the National level was when the 1996 Baseball team brought the National Junior College Athletic Association World Series title to NTCC.鈥燦TCC President Dr. Brad Johnson expressed his excitement over the win:
"The guys have been ranked all season, which only means they've been everyone else's targets. To improve across the season, win the conference, and now earn a spot in the national tournament is such a great example of the excellence found across the board at 草榴社区. We are proud of all of them!" Johnson said.
