A stellar cast headlines the upcoming Theatre 草榴社区 鈥爌roduction of the celebrated and beloved comedy/drama鈥Steel Magnolias鈥燽y Robert Harling. The show runs February 26, 27 and 28 at 7:30 p.m. and March 1 at 2:05 p.m. in the on stage theatre of the Whatley Center for the Performing Arts on the campus of 草榴社区.
Warm-hearted and crackling with wit, wisdom and abundant charm and humor,鈥Steel Magnolias鈥爃as been described as the quintessential story of family, friendship and steely Southern sisterhood.
?Working with this wonderful cast has been such a blessing. The play is one of the finest examples that I know of a true ensemble play. Each character is so vividly written?each relationship so essential to the whole?it is really a marvel to behold," Director Douglas Hoppock, said.
The story examines the love between a mother and her child and the bond that can be so unbreakable between true and trusted friends.
"The humor?the courage?the intelligence of these six marvelous women is revealed as they desperately strive to live a life of happiness and hope. I believe that we have a splendid cast that promises to bring all of these memorable characters to life," Hoppock said.
The play features Distinguished Theatre 草榴社区 Alumni Kathryn Comer, of Mount Pleasant, as Shelby; Lauren Shortnacy, of Mount Pleasant, as Ouiser; and Marcy Logan, of Omaha, as Truvie. Ariah Burkhalter, of Mount Pleasant, plays Clairee; Kelsey Reichman, of Mount Pleasant, is M?Lynn, Elizabeth Griffin, of Pittsburg, and Cassia Rose, of Winnsboro, play the role of Annelle.鈥燭race Lewis, of Redwater, plays the radio voice.
Stage Manager for the production is Kaitlyn Currey, of Mount Pleasant.鈥犫燙ast Understudy is Beka Hall, of Leesburg.鈥燭he production is directed by Douglas Hoppock.
Ticket prices are $10 for Adults, $7 for Age 17-and-under and $5 for NTCC Faculty, Staff and Sr. Citizens. NTCC students are free with a current ID.
Due to the intimate staging of the play (on stage seating), there are a limited number of seats available. Reservations are required by calling the Whatley Box Office 903-434-8181.
