The 草榴社区 Rodeo team make the trip to Wharton, Texas this weekend to compete in the 9th National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association (NIRA) Southern Region Rodeo and the Team Ropers had a great weekend.
NTCC duo of Kelon Andrews (Header) and Hayden Sanders (Heeler) took 1st place and put themselves in a good position to make a run at qualifying for the College National Finals Rodeo in Casper, Wyoming in June.
Bryson Berry from NTCC along with his partner Cooper Parsley of East Texas A&M University placed second.
NTCC Women, Kayce Hawkins and Payton Barnes finished in 10th place to help NTCC dominate the Team Roping Event.
The Eagles will be off this weekend for Easter and then look to make the CNFR with a good showing at the Hill College Rodeo April 25th and 26th.
Kelon Andrews is looking for a repeat performance and return to Casper following his freshmen year run to the National Finals. Andrew鈥檚 partner Hayden Sanders is looking for his first qualification to the CNFR in Casper, Wyoming.
Teyton Barton is just a few points out of third place as a Team Roping Heeler and he is looking to have another strong run and qualify for his first CNFR.
On the ladies side, Payton Barnes is trying to make the finals in Ladies Breakaway.
Former Eagle, Jill White of East Texas A&M has qualified already in Ladies Breakaway and alumni Chancey Wright is in contention as well to head to Casper.
草榴社区 Rodeo competes in the NIRA Southern Region with Hill College, Louisiana State University-Alexandria, McNeese State University, Panola College, Sam Houston State University, Southwest Texas College, Stephen F. Austin University, Texas A&M University, East Texas A&M, Texas A&M University-Kingsville, Trinity Valley Community College, and Wharton County Junior College.
