Upcoming continuing education courses at NTCC

The Continuing Education Department at ²ÝÁñÉçÇø offers a variety of learning opportunities for members of the community. From personal enrichment classes to training for a new career, there are many non-credit options to choose from.†




"There are a lot of benefits to enrolling in continuing education classes at NTCC. Our basic course rates are very affordable and students don't have to go through the formal college application process," Teresa Wooten, †NTCC Director of Continuing Education and Corporate Training, said.†




In addition to courses for individuals, the NTCC Continuing Education Department also offers customized training for businesses. This can include everything from food handling and safety certification to computer classes.†




"We try to be flexible in our programming. The world moves quickly and we want to help our residents and local businesses keep up with changing technologies," Wooten said.†




The following courses will be offered through the continuing education department beginning in January:




Aikido:†â¶Ä An introduction to the Japanese martial art.†â¶Ä No prior experience necessary.†â¶Ä Meets†6:00-7:30 pm on Tuesday and Thursday evenings in the FIT Center beginning January 17.† Instructor: Sensei Ann Finch

Basic Firearm Safety:†Recommended for the novice or one without recent experience with handguns and/or for those planning to enroll in a Concealed Handgun License class.†Meets†6:00-9:00 pm on Thursday, January 12,†at the Criminal Justice Center.† Instructor:† Boake Slape

Beginning Excel Spreadsheet:† This 3-week class offers a complete survey of Microsoft Excel introductory skills. Meets 6:00-9:00 pm on Thursday evenings at the Industrial Technology Training Center in Mt. Pleasant beginning January 26 or Tuesday evenings at the Hanson-Sewell Center in Pittsburg beginning January 31.† Instructor:† Linsey Harwell

Certified Nurse Aide:†This 9-week course is designed to prepare students to take the state certification test with NACES.†Classes are scheduled to begin Tuesday, January 24.

Country Western Dance-Beginning:†Learn how to 2-step, 3-step, the country waltz, and the cowboy cha-cha.†Partner not required. Meets†6:30-8:00 pm on Thursday evenings at the Hanson-Sewell Center in Pittsburg beginning January 26.† Instructor:† Carolyn Anders

Concealed Handgun License:†Learn basic firearm safety, Texas concealed handgun laws, choosing a weapon and holster, and shoot/don?t shoot scenarios.†Meets†8:00 am-7:00 pm on Saturday, January 14, at the Criminal Justice Center.† 1:00-7:00 pm for recertification.† Instructor: Boake Slape

CPR for Healthcare Provider:† This 8-hour class is designed to provide basic CPR certification for healthcare professionals or students who plan to pursue a healthcare occupation.†Meets†8:00 am-5:00 pm on Saturday, January 28.† Instructor: Casey Sanders

Electrician Mandatory Update:††This course provides a review of the latest edition of the National Electrical Code including notable code revision as well as electrical licensing requirements and state laws and rules that regulate the conduct of licensed electricians.† This course is required to be completed every year prior to license renewal.†â¶Ä Meets†6:00-10:00 pm on Monday, January 9, at the Industrial Technology Training Center in Mt. Pleasant.† Instructor:† Earl Hale

Firefighter Academy:† This 42-week training program is approved by the Texas Commission on Fire Protection to provide fire-fighter training. The 2012 Firefighter Academy begins Wednesday, January 18.† Fire Academy Coordinator: Chief Larry McRae

?Flirty Girl? Cut-Loose Cardio:††Learn the moves, music, and magic of this popular dance style. Meets 6:30-7:15 pm on Monday and Wednesday evenings in the FIT Center †on the main campus beginning January 18.† Instructor:† Angela Scoggin

Self Defense for Women:†â¶Ä This course offers†basic techniques of self defense. Meets†6:00-9:00 pm on Tuesday, January 10, at the Criminal Justice Center.† Instructor:† Boake Slape
