A successful season for the Eagles has helped NTCC place four players on the Region XIV All-Conference Team.
Pitcher Jordan Marah, catcher Matt Durst and outfielder Zach Costa all earned First-Team honors while Tanner Allgood was named a second-team pitcher.
It?s great to see our players get this kind of recognition,? Eagles head coach Josh Stewart said. ?These players put in countless hours on the practice field to get where they are and they deserve to see it pay off like this.?
A sophomore, Marah finished fourth among Eagle pitchers with a 2.37 ERA during the regular season but truly shined during conference play, where he led the team with a 1.91 ERA. Marah finished 5-2 in conference play this season, tossing a shutout against defending national champion Navarro Apr. 25 and a no-hitter against Paris Junior College Apr. 18. Marah was 5-3 overall this season.
Freshman catcher Matt Durst was second on the team in hitting during the season and in conference play, batting .314 during the 2012 campaign and .333 in conference play. Durst finished the season with 25 RBI on 48 hits, including five doubles and one homerun. Defensively, Durst was a power behind the plate, throwing out 33 base runners while committing just five errors in 265 chances this season.
Sophomore Zach Costa led the Eagles at the plate this season, hitting .355 overall and .369 during conference play. Costa finished the 2012 spring season with 39 hits (including eight doubles) and 14 RBI despite appearing in only 32 of the Eagles? 50 games this season.
Costa overcame a slow start to the year and saw his batting average steadily rise as the season continued. Costa finished the year on a roll, including picking up four hits in seven at-bats in the Region XIV Tournament.
Allgood, a freshman, earned second-team recognition after picking up wins in his first six starts of the season. He finished the year with a 2.98 ERA and struck out nearly two batters for every walk he issued.
The Eagles finished the 2012 spring season 33-17 (26-10), earning the Region XIV regular season title. The team entered the Region XIV Tournament as the top seed but fell to Galveston and Texarkana to end the season.
