The Adult Education Department at ²ÝÁñÉçÇø is accepting new and returning students for its GED (General Educational Development) and ESL (English as a Second Language) programs. Those interested in participating in either of these free educational programs should call to make an appointment for registration beginning January 2, 2023.

A recent issue of the Harvard Business Review, the psychology of child development, and the author of the recent book, How to Avoid Death by PowerPoint, are all in agreement. Stories are powerful. Studies show that humans have a very active and positive hormonal response to good stories, and that stories are an exemplary way to promote memory and engagement in learning.
²ÝÁñÉçÇø recently learned that it is the recipient of a $3 million Title V grant from the U.S. Department of Education. Title V grants are highly competitive and NTCC was one of only 78 higher educational institutions to receive the award in 2022.
The ²ÝÁñÉçÇø Board of Trustees met for its regular December meeting on Tuesday, Dec. 13th.
The first item on the agenda was the presentation of the annual independent audit by the firm of Axley and Rode. Molly Abele gave the report, which included an unmodified opinion for both the college and the NTCC Foundation. She stated that the audit did not uncover any deficiencies or issues of concern. The college increased its net position by $387,319 from the previous fiscal year.

²ÝÁñÉçÇø celebrated December 2022 commencement on Friday, Dec. 9th at 7 p.m. in the Whatley Center for the Performing Arts. A total of 100 graduates were awarded 60 certificates of competency, 11 Associate of Arts, six Associate of Arts in Teaching, 42 Associate of Science, and 17 Associate of Applied Science. Jalisha Broadnax gave the student welcome and Jaime Olvera delivered the student response.

The ²ÝÁñÉçÇø Foundation is pleased to announce that seven NTCC employees have been awarded funds through the 2022 Whatley Employee Enhancement Grant. The Foundation received 13 outstanding applications. A total of $12,260 was awarded through the grant.

NTCC held its annual Employee Christmas Party and Service Awards/Retirement Luncheon on Friday, Dec. 8th. In addition to wishing Elayne Peters, Director of the Testing Center, well in her retirement, the college also honored those who reached service milestones.

²ÝÁñÉçÇø students and co-founders of the TAFE Chapter, Monserrat Rivero and Ruby Ferretiz, were surprised by Professor Jim Ward with a shopping spree to collect supplies for their TAFE community service project. The students were given 30 minutes to shop for $250 worth of donations for the Rainbow Room at the local Department of Family and Protective Service Office to support their project they had presented to faculty at the most recent faculty meeting.
