Theatre ²ÝÁñÉçÇø presents Butterflies Are Free

Butterflies Are Free, by Leonard Gershe, opens February 27 at the Whatley Center for the Performing Arts on the ²ÝÁñÉçÇø campus. In this Tony Award-winning comedy, a young blind man and the free-spirited girl-next-door discover the values of self-reliance and dependence.

The play, performed by Theatre ²ÝÁñÉçÇø, centers on Don Baker, a Greenwich Village newcomer who struggles to create an independent life for himself apart from his family in Scarsdale.

Eagles softball sweeps Angelina College

The ²ÝÁñÉçÇø Eagles softball team added another two notches to their belt Monday afternoon, sweeping Angelina College by scores of 9-3 in the first game and 10-4 in the second.

Freshman pitcher Hailey Dixon led NTCC to their first win of the day. Angelina college scored the first two runs of the game in the fourth inning and held the Eagles at bay until the sixth, when NTCC scored five runs.

Eagles softball dominates Ranger College in four-game series

The ²ÝÁñÉçÇø (NTCC) Eagles softball team dominated Ranger College during Friday and Saturday?s four game series, improving their record to 6-2 for the season.


† † † †The first two innings of game one on Friday were stalemates, with sophomore infielder Chelcey Faglie driving in the first and only runs of the game in the bottom of the third.

NTCC Rodeo kicks off spring season

The ²ÝÁñÉçÇø (NTCC) Rodeo Team competed in the first rodeo of the spring season February 7 and 8 at Trinity Valley Community College in Athens.†The Rodeo Team had a very successful showing, with four students placing in individual events allowing the team get closer to its goal of sending representatives to the College National Finals Rodeo (CNFR) in June.††

February 11 weather closure

All ²ÝÁñÉçÇø locations will close at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 11 due to winter weather. Food services WILL †be available to students who live on campus. The Mt. Pleasant Daily Tribune political forum that was scheduled for tonight is also cancelled.

NTCC will continue to monitor the weather and will announce any further closures by 6 a.m. tomorrow if necessary.

The NTCC Eagles baseball and softball games scheduled for Wednesday have been postponed.

Eagles Softball drops two to LSU Eunice

† † † †The ²ÝÁñÉçÇø (NTCC) Eagles softball team took a†double loss against the Louisiana State University Eunice Bengals during†Saturday's home games.†The loss is the first for the Eagles this season after having won both of†their season opening games last week.

† † † †The Bengals took a commanding lead early in the first game, scoring four†unanswered runs before the end of the second inning.†Brianna Williams scored the first run of the day for the Eagles, but is†was not enough as the Bengals scored another three runs to win the first†game 7-1.

Eagles Baseball picks up three wins against Pratt

† † † †The ²ÝÁñÉçÇø (NTCC) Eagles baseball team secured†their first win of the season on Saturday against the Pratt Community†College Beavers. The Eagles and the Beavers squared off for two†doubleheaders on Saturday and Sunday and the Eagles won three of the four†games played this weekend.


† † † †NTCC took an early lead in the second inning of the first game and went on†to pick up a shutout, 3-0, win over the Beavers.

Stone sculptures on display at Whatley Center


The ²ÝÁñÉçÇø art department is currently hosting an art exhibit by stone sculptor Stacy Deslatte of Longview. The display, which runs through March 7, is featured in the foyer of the Whatley Center for the Performing Arts on the NTCC campus. The exhibit is open free to the public during regular business hours. Deslatte (left) is pictured above with Dr. Kim Wommack, NTCC Professor of Art and Division Director for Creative and Performing Arts in front of "Royal Demeanor," one of the sculptures on display.
